Satavahana
Great Taste Awards 1-star Winner. The judges' comments:
An even and consistent roast to the beans and a pleasant crema to the espresso. We love the sweetness in this coffee and the malty flavours come through well with a dry finish.
Farm Details:
Farm 1. Venkids Valley Estate is a coffee plantation run by Pavan and Shilpa Nanjappa, a third-generation coffee-growing couple. They grow both Arabica and Robusta coffees, which are meticulously planted in blocks according to their varietals. This helps to maintain traceability during the picking process. The plantation also has its own wet mill, fermentation tanks, and drying yards.
Farm 2. Coffee was introduced to Araku in the early 1900’s from neighbouring Pamuleru Valley.
In 2007, Small and Marginal Tribal Farmers Mutually Aided Cooperative Society (SAMTFMACS), a coffee farmer cooperative formed with assistance from The Naandi Foundation, was formed to push the coffee production there even further. By providing technical support and training in all areas needed for a small farmer, the cooperative has managed to significantly increase the quality and quantity of coffee grown.
