Brewing a Legacy - The Story of Coromandel Coast
In the vibrant heart of London's Brick Lane in 2016, a chance encounter would change everything. Tuomas and I were strolling hand in hand when a poster caught our eye - the London Coffee Festival.
Intrigued, we stepped inside, our curiosity piqued by the buzzing world of artisan coffee brands.
But something was missing.
Despite the excitement and innovation, there was a glaring absence...
...the rich, untold story of Indian coffee.
As someone who had walked the lush coffee plantations of India, I knew we had a narrative waiting to be shared. My roots ran deep in a coffee culture that most of the world had yet to discover.
Life continued, research simmering on the back burner. Then came our daughter, and with her arrival, a whirlwind of new motherhood. Those first months were intense and challenging. Tuomas and I found ourselves craving something to reconnect - not just as parents, but as partners with shared passions.
Our solution was beautifully simple yet transformative: a barista course.
Those few weeks reignited something special between us - a shared love for coffee that went far beyond just a daily brew.
As I delved deeper into my research, I uncovered a remarkable truth about Indian coffee cultivation. These weren't just plantations; they were ecosystems. Coffee trees grew in their most natural state - shaded by fruit and spice trees, a method that was not just traditional but inherently sustainable. This was coffee as nature intended - a delicate dance of biodiversity and agricultural wisdom.
In 2017, with a small roaster and a big dream, Coromandel Coast was officially incorporated. The name was deliberate - a tribute to the southeastern coastal region of India, the coast I call home. It was more than a brand; it was a preservation of heritage - both cultural and natural.
I was driven by a deeper mission: to speak the untold story of India. Not just through words, but through every carefully roasted bean.
Coromandel Coast became our canvas for storytelling. Each bag of coffee is an invitation to taste the rich soils of South India, to understand the intricate ecosystem of our coffee farms, and to celebrate a coffee culture that has remained true to its roots.
From a chance encounter on a London street to a mission of cultural and environmental preservation, our journey is proof that the most extraordinary stories often begin with a moment of curiosity and a deep respect for tradition.
Welcome to Coromandel Coast.
