Strainer

METHOD

While it’s not as sophisticated or charming as other methods, it does the job.

If you’re out camping in the middle of nowhere, or just looking to switch from instant coffee to fresh roasted coffee but don’t have any fancy brewing equipment, our strainer method is simple and effective. A strainer can be bought from any of the superstores near you.

Step 1
Bring 350g(ml) of water to a boil.

Step 2
Add two heaped tablespoons of coarsely ground coffee into a milk jug.

Step 3
Pour the hot water gently over the grounds.

Step 4
Stir the coffee with a spoon to ensure the grounds are evenly saturated.

Step 5
Pause and let the coffee steep for five minutes.

Step 6
Strain the mixture through a tea strainer into your coffee mug. There you have it! Simply make sure the grind is slightly coarse (akin to French Press) to reduce the amount of coffee remnants in your cup. If you like the flavour, but feel the taste is watery, increase the amount of coffee you put in. Decrease if you find it too strong.
